The Master Builders’ Association of Western Pennsylvania has named the Moon Area High School as a finalist in the Excellence in Craftsmanship – Interior category. The MBA Building Excellence Awards are the most sought-after commercial construction awards in the Western Pennsylvania Region. The Moon Area High School project was submitted for consideration by Nello Construction of Canonsburg, PA.
This new high school provides modern educational space to nearly 1200 students in grades 9-12. The 290,000 square foot, three-story building allows natural light to fill the educational and specialty areas. This use of natural light supplements the lighting systems that operate 13% more efficiently than required by code.
The highlights of this project include:
- 1,153 seat auditorium with a 423 seat balcony
- 1,806 seat gymnasium and fitness center
- Full size natatorium with audience seating
- Modern classroom and laboratories
- Large skylights in stairwells and common spaces
The General Contractor, Nello Construction, completed this project at a final cost of $38.6 million which was within budget.
