Eckles Architecture and Engineering is proud to announce that McIntyre Elementary in Pittsburgh, PA has been awarded Armstrong Flooring’s “ideas 2 reality” Best Flooring Design. This award is presented to professional architects and designers by Armstrong flooring for the best use of commercial flooring products in a real design or a design idea. Eckles was chosen as the best of 138 entries in the “Reality” category for its McIntyre Elementary School flooring design.
The design features Armstrong VCT flooring products used to create a trolley track theme that flows throughout this K-6 elementary school in Pittsburgh, PA. The trolley theme was chosen as tribute to the heritage of the surrounding communities and also as a symbol of a student’s educational journey. The brightly colored and lively theme specifically highlights the media center, gymnasium, cafeteria, music room and art room as well as classroom entrances.
The Armstrong company rewarded the Eckles staff with a catered dinner event and provided the design team with a crystal sculpture to commemorate the award. The design team included:
- Tricia Monaco, Interior Designer
- Mark Scheller, Project Architect
- Randy Riggans, Production Supervisor
- Scott Keener, Specification Writer
Special thanks are also due to Andy Naples who was the Eckles Construction Services project representative and Degol Carpet who was the flooring installer for this project which completed construction in 2010.
